BRUCE ONOBRAKPEYA,
MASTER PRINTMAKER
THE FOURTEEN STATIONS OF THE CROSS |

A special exhibition at the AFRICAN ART MUSEUM OF THE SMA FATHERS, in Tenafly, New Jersey, is devoted to a set of linoblock prints by Bruce P. O. Onobrakpeya, Master Printmaker of Nigeria. Also a painter and sculptor, Onobrakpeya came of age as an artist in the 1960s and 1970s, the period when Nigeria won its independence from Great Britain.
Trained in Art School with western-style courses of study, Onobrakpeya is both an African and a contemporary artist. The complete set of fourteen prints: “The Fourteen Stations of the Cross”, 1969, was purchased for the African Art Museum of the SMA Fathers in 1974 by Fr. Kevin Carroll, noted scholar of the Art of the Yoruba people, Nigeria. The Exhibition will be on view through January 6, 2008.
