The Ganta Leprosy and Tuberculosis Rehabilitation Center in Ganta, Liberia continues to offer healing and hope to those who come for treatment. Both Leprosy and T.B. can be cured, but early detection and treatment is a vital aspect of controlling these diseases.
The Consolata Sisters are responsible for running the Center and keeping up with the
many needs and programs that are a part of daily life at the Rehab. Ann Seliskar, S.M.A. Lay Missionary joined with the Sisters in this ministry in March 2007. Ann makes pastoral visits daily to the patients in the hospital and helps out in the pharmacy. She completed a survey of the Center to help assess the needs.
Urgent Needs: With Peacekeepers present in Liberia, there is stability and opportunity for Liberians to begin rebuilding their lives.
The farm at “Rehab” continues to provide food for the Center, but not enough. As Liberia enters this new phase from relief to development, some relief groups are cutting back on food supplies. This places an added burden on the Sisters. Daily, they are feeding 100 patients in the Hospital (80 Leprosy and 20 T.B. patients). Good nutrition is very important in their recovery. Also at the Center there are 106 additional residents plus 86 children and 13 spouses.
The Sisters welcome your help at this time as they strive to serve the needs of our Liberian brothers and sisters at Ganta Rehab.
