A letter from Ann Seliskar
Lay Missionary

 Dear Friends and family,

For those of you who do not know, there is now another SMA lay missionary in Liberia. Her name is Iga and she is from Poland, but was sent by the American province. She is spending 3 weeks with me here in Ganta and we are enjoying each other's company. I have been trying to explain how things are here to her and she is learning fast. She is very curious and has a heart for the Liberian people. Next week she and I will travel to Monrovia and I will help her to get settled into her temporary new place at the Pastoral center at St Theresa''s.

As for me, I have been busy with the Leprosy and TB patients at the Rehab, the pharmacy (not too much since Marie is back), and doing awarenesses on Pro Life. The food shortage at the Rehab is an ongoing problem. Thanks for your support in this important area.Because of you many of our patients are eating rice and corn soy that they really enjoy. When one is sick, food is so important to help them to get stronger. Thanks so much for caring.

The right to life of an unborn is a new project here in Liberia. I guess due to the 14 year civil war here, pro life never was started here. So, what we are doing here in Ganta is historic. I have given two awarenesses to the Justice and Peace Committee at our church. Last week I spoke to our church congregation on the topic. I was informed that some of our students may be pregnant, so i was asked to talk. So, yesterday I spoke to about 600 students here at St Lawrence High School on the Right to Life of the unborn child.. They were very attentive and the message was well received. On Tues the JPC of which I am a member, will visit 3 school principals to discuss doing the same awareness in each of their high schools.I have trained the JPC members to give the talks themselves, In a few months we will have educated over 2500 high school students in Ganta on the dangers of abortion and why every child has a right to life. This is a grass roots endeavor for now in Ganta alone. In a few years I hope that it will become widespread throughout Liberia. I have written a proposal for it and will be asking for your help in the near future.

Here are a few shocking statistics for you. Worldwide 2 Billion unborn babies have died from abortion. Every year another 56 million die. Many women die in the process of having an abortion and many get cancer due to them being at higher risk. Some women will never be able to have another child. It is so sad. We have seen DVD's showing abortion from an ultra sound machine and it is really disconcerting to see an unborn baby cut apart. Please join me in prayer for these poor unborn babies and their families that suffer so.

The Bresillac Project for Education in Liberia is going smoothly and many students are benefiting. Thanks again for all of your continued support. We are meeting with them and trying hard to instill good ethics and good work habilts. Some we have had to give special tutoring to. Today i met with the principal at the Methodist school here in Ganta to get their grades. Most are doing well, while some are struggling.I am putting all the information on excell so that we can look at it.Today I also met with the catholic school board chairman to discuss him meeting with the school board so that they can come up with a list of additional students to complete our goal numbers. He promised to begin work on it.Students in Sannequille are also working hard. So, all is well.

Please continue to pray for me as I do for you. I miss you and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Many blessings,
In His love and care,
Ann
